Not the typical first day, apparently

Well, the day that i had been dreading for 16.5 months is finally over and we all made it out fine afterall. We both dropped off Owen at the daycare this morning and said our goodbyes. He cried and cried when we left and then i cried and cried because it was incredibly harder than i even imagined. When we picked him up at the end of the work day here is what we were told about Owen's first day at daycare:
  • he cried hard for about 15 minutes after we left in the morning. He was weepy the rest of the morning until they all went outside to play. He was completely fine and even had fun playing outside with the other kids.
  • he ate his entire lunch and even had a second serving!
  • after lunch the kids all have their nap. Owen had to be comforted for about 5 minutes before falling asleep on his cot and slept for 2.5 hours!
  • he ate his entire afternoon snack.
  • he 'walked' with assistance to the playground outside in the afternoon and had a great time playing until Scott picked him up.
  • The ladies said they hadn't had a child have such a great first day in a long time!!! Yay!
When we picked him up after work he talked all the way home and was incredibly happy. We saw an incredible difference in his walking and standing, too. Instead of crawling everywhere like he prefers to do, he decided to stand and then walk places. We're sure he's going to be running by the end of the week! I just hope that this is how it's truly going to be and keeps going this way for good...
Here he is this morning as we were about to leave for the day:

And tonight as we played outside in the garden before his much needed bath:
