Highlights from our first full day...

We are having a wonderful time here in the sunshine state. The sun was out most of the day but it was cool when the wind blew. The afternoon was spent poolside since the winds died down quite a bit. Owen loved the kiddie pool and had a great time throwing his ball strategically into the big pool so his momma and dad had to go in and get it.
Tonight we're on our own for dinner as the grandparents are off to a hockey game. We'll probably have an early night to bed since the sun has tuckered us out! We are definitely not complaining though!
Enjoy the photos!

We've arrived!

Well, we've arrived and we're loving it already! Here's a photo of Scott and Owen looking out the window in the airplane. Owen did really well on the plane and even slept the entire decent! He did make it challenging for his momma at some points during the trip by pooping twice and the second time he managed to pee all over the tiny bathroom during a bit of turbulance. Not fun, but it makes a good story to tell.
We'll keep updating with our adventures throughout the week.

He's back.....I think.

After having an off day on Friday we decided to bring Owen to urgent care to see if there was something wrong. He had a full blown ear infection and was put on antibiotics right away. We now know that when he's a little off, there will always be something to look into. He's just going to be that type of kid.
He had a rough weekend, but with long amounts of time thrown in that were fun and normal. At one point we ended up calling TeleHealth because he wouldn't stop crying and the crying was different than his usual cry. We think we weren't giving him enough Tylenol so the pain in his ears would come back sooner than what we thought was a normal amount of time.
Today he got up at 5 a.m. and played quietly in bed with us until we got up at our usual time. His nap went really well for the first time in four days, so i'm really relieved that he's getting better. We're hoping the ear infection is completely gone by Thursday because flying probably isn't fun for a little one with an ear infection...

Owen's first word!

Owen has been saying 'umma' for about a week now but not referring to anything specific when saying it. Today, while he was in the nursery at church, he told the ladies 'mumma' numerous times before he started crying. Yay! I'm so glad he actually understands the word and that his first word was mumma and not something like 'bottle'.
Here he is today:

Picking shoes to bring to Florida...

Here's Owen this afternoon picking the shoes he would like to bring to Florida.

So many surprises

This weekend was full of surprises for Scott and I as we watched Owen. On Saturday night Owen absolutely loved what we had for dinner even though we thought there would be no way he'd want any of it. We had salmon and he couldn't get enough of it! Even if we snuck a piece of squash on the spoon with the salmon, he'd gently pick the squash off, grab the salmon and then woolf it down!

Last night we watched in awe as he gently put pieces of chicken onto his spoon and then slowly lifted it to his mouth! Each time he did it we clapped and said 'YAY!' and he thought he was doing something really good so he kept doing it. It's amazing how he is absorbing everything we're doing and trying it himself now.

He is now walking (with very little assistance) behind his little walker across our family room. He's still a bit shaky but progress has really sped up lately.

This morning he is 'talking' non-stop and crawling as fast as he possibly can. He actually tucks his head down when he's crawling fast. It's like he wants nothing to catch the wind so as not to slow him down! I'm going to try to get it on video because it's so funny.

Next week we're off on our first family vacation! Scott and i can't wait to welcome the sun and hot weather down in Florida. Nine more sleeps!!

Magazine, anyone?

Today was a rainy day so we just hung out at home for most of it. Owen loves to investigate things in our bathroom these days so daddy took the opportunity to teach him about using the toilet. We're nowhere near that stage yet but it was funny to see Owen react to the roll of never-ending toilet paper and the sound of the toilet flushing.

Horsing around with daddy

Daddy and Owen spent some quality time together today while i did some cleaning around the house. They had lots of fun!

Before and after

Before:
and after. Note that he is nowhere to be seen. We really need to teach him how to clean up after himself!

A great day up until the end...

We started our day off by meeting with Owen's friends at Coffee Break. Owen tried kissing his girlfriend Arianna but she's apparently playing hard-to-get as she ran away with his sippy cup and infected it with germs instead. After lunch and a much needed nap we went to visit Owen's great-uncle Donald and great-aunt Florene at the farm. Owen entertained himself and us while he played with measuring cups and dust mops.
And then, on the way home, Owen's momma got a super duper speeding ticket and another ticket for not having proper insurance information on-hand! What a way to ruin a perfectly nice day! Owen's parents have already decided a run to the Dairy Queen is needed tonight so we can end the day on a nice note.

Poke, poke, laugh

Owen has started a new thing. If i have my shirt untucked or if my pants are a bit low exposing some overflowing skin, Owen pokes at the flab and laughs. What is he trying to tell me?!? He even goes so far as to somtimes move my shirt uncovering my love-handles (i hate that term) while he's waiting to be changed on his changetable. This new thing has made me remember to trim his fingernails because it seriously hurts when he gets a good poke in when i'm not looking.
Here he is at bath time last night looking like such a big boy!

Our day so far

I brought Owen to see his great grandma this morning at the nursing home. She perked up right away as soon as she saw it was us. At one point Owen actually fed her some of his Cheerios. I almost cried it was so cute. He really loves it there with all the attention he gets from Grannie and all the other residents and nurses.
Then we went to the mall for a quick shop. Here's Owen as he browses through the sale rack:

Sunday night dinner

Last night Owen's uncle Ian and aunt Andrea came over for Sunday night dinner. We had an untraditional dinner (fajitas) but we still enjoyed the food and the company. Owen loved all the attention.

A rough start to the day

Owen started the day off early with his dad. They both let me sleep in a bit which was really nice. Owen fell on his face again this morning and it left a bruise on his cheek. You can sort of see it in this picture:

Here are some other shots from today:

Good 'ol Saturdays

We love Saturdays around here. The day usually starts with Owen joining us in bed as we watch Sports Centre or Sports Central or Today in Sports or whatever those shows are called. Owen entertains us as he crawls over the dog and attempts to catapolt himself off the end of the bed. Then we mosey on downstairs and have some breakfast. Today we went to visit Grannie in the nursing home (which made her day because Owen was so entertaining today!) followed by our weekly family trip to the grocery store. Then we had some lunch and then Owen had a nap while i did some much needed laundry. Scott had a hockey game this afternoon so he was M.I.A. for a few hours. Not very exciting stuff, but we love Saturdays just the way they are!
Here's Owen and Bailey watching Hockey Day in Canada while eating grapes.

Fun with the most unexpected things

Here he is this morning playing with the vacuum handle. He only bonked himself on the head twice and then he needed to have a nap. On a normal day he absolutely needs to go to bed around 12:15 p.m. or else....! I'm off to have some lunch now. Thank goodness it's Friday!

Daily posts coming

Owen's grandparents are enjoying some time in Florida for a couple months so we've been asked (well, actually, TOLD!) to send pictures/updates daily. So that's what i'm going to try to do! Even if there aren't many exciting stories to share, at the very least you'll get a photo of him that day.
This morning i bundled up Owen and sat him in his stroller on the driveway while i shovelled the 10+ centimeters of snow we had dumped on us last night. He is such a good kid - he'll sit there forever if i let him. The snowflakes and Bailey occupied his attention for at least 15 minutes before we were off to our Coffee Break group at church. I put him in the nursery at Coffee Break and he did reasonably well. He's doing much better in the nursery at church compared to when he first started going there, so i'm hopeful he'll be excited about going to daycare in April. Actually, if he's excited when he first starts daycare i must admit, i will be a bit hurt, so i hope he's a little bit sad to see me go off to work...
Here's a photo of our backyard this morning:

It's getting wild around here

Owen is becoming more quick and sure of himself while getting around these days. He motors around the house in an instant and sometimes, like last night, he doesn't allow his hands to keep up with him and he falls flat on his face. Last night's incident left a bump on his forehead but he recovered quickly.
He now tackles the dog instead of gently giving her a 'kiss'. Yesterday he went at her with so much force that Owen toppled right over the other side of Bailey. Owen just thought it was something new to do so has been doing it ever since. Poor Bailey. She's going to take so much crap from Owen!
I really have to watch that he doesn't venture too close to the stairs because he has no fear of them. If he's playing on our bed or the couch he'll dart toward the edge and fall head first if we don't catch him. He laughs hysterically when we catch him so he thinks it's now a game.
This morning he learned a new 'game' while i was changing his diaper. He digs in his heels while he's laying down and pushes on them which sends him flying off his change pad. He also thinks this is hilarious. What a goof!

Emotions running high

Yesterday Owen had a friend visit for the morning and he thoroughly enjoyed himself, although at one point he accidentally bopped Julia on the head with a toy, which made her cry. Seconds after the crying started, Owen joined in and it took a long time to get him to stop. I guess he just didn't like seeing someone cry...? Julia was busy playing with the toys again way before Owen could regroup himself. I hope we don't have a super sensitive little boy on our hands...
Here he is this morning as he shows me his sock:
