The top 10 things i love about Owen right now...

1. The way his breath sounds and smells when he falls asleep face-to-face with me.
2. The way his face lights up when he smiles.
3. The tiny sucking noise he makes when he's asleep with his soother in his mouth.
4. The way he melts into my chest when he's exhausted and just wants to be held.
5. The way he scrunches up his face and laughs after Bailey gives him a 'kiss'.
6. When he says "hmmmm" after he yawns.
7. The way he protects 'his' boob with his free arm when i feed him.
8. The happy/terrified look he has when we give him a bath.
9. The way he scares himself when he screams in delight.
10. His loud farts. Especially when he scares himself when he does it.

Attack of the killer hiccups

I'm hoping all the moms out there can tell me if the fact that Owen gets the hiccups every day, is normal. The poor little guy gets so tired and i think the only way to get rid of them is to feed him.
Today we're not up to much. We'll probably go to the grocery store and then spend the evening with Auntie Andrea as its her birthday today!
Here's a picture of Owen this morning.

Chillin' and eatin' ice cream

Owen is growing up sooo fast! Scott and i notice changes every day now. Whenever i think of how fast he's growing i get this sickening feeling deep inside because i know he's going to be a little boy before we know it. I know there's still so much to look forward to, but i'm just enjoying this baby stage so much right now.
Last night we watched the Leafs' game on t.v. and i quickly took this picture. See what i mean about him turning into a little boy!! Scott helped with his casual arm pose, by the way.
Tonight, after we visited Grannie in Bowmanville, we decided to pick up Dairy Queen for a treat. Owen was begging to try some so we let him. He didn't know what to think at first, but after the initial cold shock we know he's got a sweet tooth like me.

The movies!!

Today Owen and i and two other moms and babies went to see a movie! What fun! The new Cineplex Odeon in north Oshawa shows a movie once a week especially for moms and babies. The lights were dimmed, the audio lowered and everyone in the theatre was understanding when a baby decided to fuss. We saw The Last Mimzy. Owen was mesmerized by the screen, as were the other babies. Whoever thought of having a special movie showing for moms and their babies had a great idea because it looks like it's catching on with moms across the region. Sorry, no pictures from our movie day.

What a mess!!

This weekend Owen went through his entire inventory of sleepers. The reason? He decided to continually produce the nastiest poops thus far in his short little life. The first time he did it i secretly blamed Scott for not putting the diaper on correctly. The second time i secretly blamed Grandma Mars for not putting the diaper on correctly. And then this morning i had no choice but to realize that it wasn't that the diaper wasn't put on properly, but that the poop had a mind of its own. Here's a picture of the damage from this morning's episode. How can one little baby produce such a nasty mess??!! Then, after i gave him a bath he puked and peed all over himself.
This weekend was also full of cute moments like these photos. Enjoy!

A visit with Beppe

Today Owen and i went to Bowmanville to visit his great-Beppe! He put on his charm and smiled and smiled the whole time, to Beppe's delight. When we got home we went for our first walk around the neighbourhood. I was completely out of breath by the time we got home, so i've made it my goal to get back into shape this summer!
Have a good weekend, everyone!

A cough/fart/poop

This morning while watching Regis and Kelly, Owen started coughing. Each time he coughed he did a little fart which finally led to a big loud poop. That's probably more than you want to know, but it was very cute so i thought i'd share.
Here's a picture of Owen last night with his dad. I see a lot of Scott in him lately.

Owen's never-ending nap

Today Owen and i met with a few ladies from our church just to meet and to get a break from the routine at home. It was good, so now we hope to meet every week.

Owen fell asleep shortly after we got home and he slept and slept and slept! For over three hours! He doesn't usually nap during the day, so i think he must be going through a growth spurt. At the end of the nap i was kicking myself for not taking one myself, but how was i supposed to know he'd sleep so long? Next time.

Here are pictures of my two kids having their naps. So cute.

Owen's rough day

This morning i went in to get Owen from his crib and found that his soother had fallen out of his mouth during the night and had lodged itself against his cheek, leaving a dark red scratch. Then i noticed that the side of his nose was all scratched. I assume from his nails that need to be trimmed. Then, to top it all off, i accidentally clipped his finger while trying to trim his nails today. He screamed and screamed and i felt sooooo bad. Poor kid!

Our day at the mall

Yesterday Owen and i went to the Pickering Town Centre with Grandma Mars. It was a fun afternoon for all of us. Owen loved looking at all the lights and colourful things all around him, Grandma loved spending time with her grandson at a time when she should have been at work(!) and i loved getting out of the house for a few hours.

Here's Owen and me in the food court having a snack.

All attention to the baby!

Scott and i have noticed for some time now that we've become more popular. People are constantly wanting to visit us or have us visit them. Stupid us, it's obvious now that people don't want to see us, but only Owen. In fact, i was recently scolded by three people (who will remain nameless, but they know who they are!) for not taking Owen with me on a visit.

Last night at our weekly family dinner at the Mars' Owen yawned or coughed or something during a story my uncle was telling and all attention went to the baby. He realized he had completely lost our attention and just gave up halfway through. At least someone else now knows how it feels to lose the attention of all those around you to a three month old cutie!

And so it begins...

Owen has been 'talking' for about a month or so now and it is the cutest thing. 'Talking' consists of cooing and awwwing and hmmming and if i coo or aww or hmm back to him, he'll respond to me, like we're having a real conversation. This week he seemed to really understand that it is him making the noises and that he has control over how loud he can be. It's now like he wants to 'top' his last talking session by screeching his noises as loud as possible before he chokes or makes himself spit up. Bailey is not liking this new development to say the least!

Here's just a cute picture of Bailey and Owen watching t.v. together.

Tired...? Not us!

For the last four nights Owen has slept from about 10 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. That's more sleep than we got pre-baby! Maybe i should stop talking about this before i jinx it or get other moms annoyed at me... I really hope this becomes the norm but from what i hear from other moms, we better be prepared for our nights to be disrupted again.

Here's a picture of Owen getting ready to have a nap during the day on Friday.

Good-bye to Grandpa

Today Owen spent some quality time with his Grandpa Mars before he leaves for Texas for three weeks. Even if Owen is in the worst mood he always breaks out in a huge grin for his Grandpa.
They watched some t.v., had some lunch and then had a nap (Owen, of course). Owen is a very lucky boy to have such great grand-parents!!

Three months already

This past Monday Owen turned three months old. In one way it seems like just yesterday that i went through the worst pain imaginable to get him here but in another way it feels like forever that he's been a part of our lives. The time that Scott and i used to have!! What did we do with all our time? I don't even remember as it seems like a life time ago.

At Owen's three month checkup on Tuesday he weighed in at 11 lbs 7 oz. Apparently infants this age should gain about a pound a month so we're on track so far. He didn't end up getting his shots because i was wrong in thinking they were given at three months. At four months he'll get the next batch of shots. All that needless worrying that day! Oh well.

Here's a picture of Owen discovering that he can grab objects. He doesn't yet realize that when the object hits him in the head that he is the one that did it!

I hope this works...!

My dear friend Henrietta told me about this blogging thing so i thought i'd try it myself. What a great way to share my adventures with my little Owen!
Here's a photo of Owen with his Uncle Ian this week.
