Nothing better...
What could be better than being woken up in bed by a sweet little two year old saying 'Momma? Momma? Mornin momma!'? The answer: a sweet little two year old saying 'Momma? Momma? Mornin momma!' while handing over hot from the oven cinammon buns! That's how my morning started today. It can't get even an inch better than that.
Changes
Our household is undergoing many changes right now and Owen is dealing with them incredibly well so far. Owen's baby brother is coming in a few months and so we've started to redo the spare bedroom. When we explain to Owen what we're doing he seems to understand that the new baby will sleep in there when he comes. We even dismantled Owen's crib yesterday and set up his big boy bed in his room. Last night he slept the whole night through without falling off (barely though!) and even fell asleep in regular time when it was bedtime. He never stops amazing us! A special thank you to his grandma and grandpa for the Thomas bedsheets! Hopefully he's this easygoing when the new baby arrives!

Christmas 2008
We spent Christmas Eve at Owen's aunt's house and we ate and ate until we couldn't anymore. Owen got a Thomas the Tank train set that he hasn't stopped playing with yet. He just loves his trains!
Christmas Day we opened our own gifts and Owen was so excited i thought he would end up running into a wall and splitting his head open or something. We've never seen him so excited! He behaved perfectly the whole day and never even had a break down. What an amazing kid!
Last night (Christmas night) Owen woke up with a terrible cough and was weezing and gasping for air. Since my sister used to have the croupe when she was a baby i knew from my mom telling me about it that Owen might have the croupe so we immediately took him outside into the cold air. That seemed to settle him down and he finally fell asleep in our bed for the night. Today he was diagnosed with a viral infection which is causing his lungs to struggle for air. He's back on a puffer for about two weeks. We're just thankful he didn't get this earlier and that it's not asthma or anything. Here are some pictures from that last few days:

Daddy and me
Owen spent almost 2 hours outside on the weekend playing with his momma and daddy. He shoveled the driveway, stuck pilons in the snow probably about 20 times, made his daddy make a pathway all the way to the back door, and more. Here are the two goofballs while they stopped to smile for a picture.

Two
Two years ago Owen arrived. In one way I can't believe it's been two whole years but in another way I can't even remember life before him. What the heck did Scott and I do with our time when it was just the two of us? Bailey must have had a lot of attention and been in the best shape of her life.
Here's a picture of the two year old on his birthday. Say cheese!
We started the day off by going to Ronald Donalds (McDonalds) to have pancakes. Then daddy went to work and momma and Owen went home to play. After his nap, we went to get his hair cut. He screamed and screamed and finally thought it was worth it after he got his sucker afterwards. Then we had dinner with our families and had his second birthday cake in a week. He entertained us for about two hours before we went home and he crashed from all the sugar. Here are some pictures from tonight. Happy birthday, monkey. We love you!

Birthday party
We had our families over on Sunday for Owen's second birthday party. His Auntie Sarah (Andrea) made him a special birthday cake and he loved it! She now has a yearly job because there's no way i can do this well!
Owen received a huge amount of toys and hasn't stopped playing with his dub (baseball glove) and balloons since then. Here are some highlights of the day:

Lately
Owen started at his newly renovated daycare last week. The first morning was a bit rough because none of the kids really knew where they were. After a day they all seem to love it and the best part is is that i get to watch him as he plays just outside my office window! Needless to say, i get absolutely no work done during that time!
Owen is starting to speak in full sentences and it's so neat to hear him do this on his own. The little words like 'is' and 'it' and 'and' aren't quite there, but we know exactly what he means most of the time.
Scott and i went away for a mini getaway this weekend and saw a difference in him even after a day away. He's turning into such a big boy before our eyes. Next weekend is his birthday party and he seems to know exactly what we mean when we talk about it. His birthday falls in the middle of the following week so we decided to hold the party a few days before because it would have been too close to Christmas.
Here are a couple of shots of Owen lately. And another shot of what Scott and i had to drive through to get home today! We almost ended up turning around and staying for an extra night...!

Hallowe'en
We really didn't think Hallowe'en would amount to much but we tried and it turned out really fun! Owen screamed during the ordeal of getting his Lion outfit on, but after it was on and he was warm and somewhat understood what was next, he loved it! Scott took him up and down the court and after a few houses he said his version of trick or treat, thank you, and bye to everyone. I managed to get a few pictures but none really turned out the way i was hoping they would.

Thanksgiving - much to be thankful for.
Wow - i didn't realize how long it's been since i've posted on here!
Our little family spent half of the weekend up north and half here at home. The cottage was stunning with the colours out in full. Owen had the time of his life jumping in piles of leaves and throwing rocks in the lake the entire time we were at the cottage.

We were able to catch a few snuggles out in the sun, which is always a pleasure!
Scott had a nap in the canoe because it was so tempting and such a beautiful day.

On Monday we spent the day with my side of the family. We took a much needed walk after dinner and Owen loved walking with everyone in the family:

It's all about Elmo
Owen is obsessed with Elmo these days. We have one DVD and he has it completely memorized now. He knows when the doggy is about to come on the screen, so he barks beforehand, he knows when the baby sings, so he points it out to us beforehand, etc., etc. It's very cute but we seriously need to get a new DVD because Scott and i are slowly going crazy.
When i picked him up from school today, Heather, his teacher, said he learned a new word! The word is ..... seriously! Apparently Heather says this word all the time and with such enthusiasm that he has started repeating her! I laughed and laughed when he said it to me on demand. It's the cutest thing.
Here's a picture of Owen last week before his haircut. His hair was WILD! When i get around to taking an updated picture of him without hair i'll post it.

Airing out
Owen came home with a wicked diaper rash on Friday. Apparently he had a very busy day filling his diaper... Anyway, so while we were at the cottage for part of the weekend we let him air out. He didn't seem to mind at all!

Back to normal
Today was the first day back to normal life for us. Owen went back to daycare after three weeks off, and i went back to work after two wonderful weeks off. Owen surprised us again and went in to daycare without any problem. There were new kids and even some parents in the room when we dropped him off, but that didn't seem to bother him. A new caregiver started today and he's a man! We can't wait to see how Owen adapts to that change because he's so used to the ladies caring for him all day. I'm sure it will be good for him to have another male to bond with besides his daddy.

Owen is all talk these days. He knows so many words now. He knows poppa (Grandpa), nanny (Grandma and Andy, our neighbour), up and down, Bailey, truck, car, doggie, bunny, tractor, pees (please), doo doo (thank you), een (Ian), wa wa (water), run, all gone, milk, juice, cheese, raisins, Elmo, and so much more. Basically, he's talking in full sentences but in his own language so only Scott and i can fully understand.
My most favourite thing about Owen right now is that he will almost always come over to me or his daddy if we ask for a kiss or hug. He gives the sweetest kisses and really digs into us when hugging us.
Here are a few shots of Owen's favourite past-time - throwing rocks in the water. He would do this all day and every day if we let him.

The countdown is on
Only one and a half more days until i'm off for two entire weeks! Scott is off this week and Owen and his daddy are having lots of fun. They've been swimming numerous times at the neighbours pool, visited Grannie Gi Gi, done groceries and cooked wonderful dinners each night, played endlessly outside in Owen's inflatable pool, and more. Needless to say, Owen is tired and has a bad diaper rash from being wet almost all day.
We spent the long weekend at the cottage and we enjoyed perfect weather on the last day. We delayed leaving until the last possible moment so we could enjoy it. I've posted some pics from the weekend below.
Owen is turning into a wild child. It happened a few days ago and i find myself standing there in awe at times because it is such a change from the sweet little cutie that we knew. Not that he's not sweet and a cutie anymore. He's just that plus being wild at all times. He scares me to be honest. Last night it took me over an hour to put him to sleep. Here's a summary of what he did in a matter of 60 minutes: screamed (for fun) at the top of his lungs just because it's fun, jumped up and down probably 500 times, turned his music on and then off and then on and...., tried to climb out of the crib and almost was successful!, held onto the rails with his hands behind him and dove into the mattress on purpose (this was followed by hysterical laughter), yelled daddy in a soft voice, a loud voice and a piercingly loud scream, yelled mommy and momma in a soft voice, a loud voice and a piercingly loud scream (in that order), cried to be let out of the crib, and then the whole cycle started again after i put him back in the crib after carrying him around for awhile.
He's also starting to test us and we're struggling with how to deal with it. In the past he has respected that he isn't to touch something when we tell him no, but now he's thinking it's a game and repeating the actions until he's bored with it. Do we just redirect his attention to something else? Or do we firmly tell him no and let him cry when he reacts to that response? Whatever we choose to do we need to decide soon because he's already taking advantage of us not knowing how to deal with it.
Next week both Scott and i are on vacation so we're planning to go to the cottage and also go camping for a couple of days (sans Owen!) Exciting stuff.

One of the many conversations around here these days...
Owen: "Momma?"
Momma: "Yes, Owen?"
Owen: "Hi."
Momma: "Hi, Owen."
And he says it with a great big grin on his face. So sweet.

We're back...
....although we haven't really been away. Life is just busy these days and when we're not busy we take advantage of the nice weather by making ourselves busy outside. Owen and i had a nice weekend this weekend as it was just the two of us. Daddy went on a boys weekend and enjoyed some time away, although i'm sure he missed us!
What's new with Owen these days? Well, i'll tell you! He is a wild kid right now. Food has some magical power with him and as soon as he has a meal or snack he is go go go! He runs everywhere and screams with delight and 'talks' non-stop. He laughs at himself constantly which is hilarious! He has a couple of new teeth but it's hard to notice since he isn't bothered by them and his mouth is full of teeth now. Every morning when he wakes up he stands up in his crib and starts saying gently "Momma.....momma.....momma..." and sometimes if that doesn't work he'll then start with "dadda?? dadda?? dadda??". It's so cute. I practically run to his room to get him because I ache with wanting to cuddle with him at that point. He is just the sweetest, most wonderful child i could ever have imagined having! Here are some pictures from our life with him lately, including some from our momma and son weekend. Enjoy!

Mowing the lawn...
Going for an evening walk with Grandma, Grandpa and Bailey.
Owen got a hold of my eye liner one morning. He was quite proud of himself but ended up crying because it took a lot of scrubbing to get it off before we went to daycare!
Making friends at the Bowmanville Zoo today. This baby goat came right up to Owen.
Owen had some fun today with his favourite thing to play with.....water (or wawa as he would call it). Unfortunately, his doggie got dunked several times and he wasn't able to sleep with him tonight because he's drying off.

Good friends, good times at the cottage
The weekend started early for some of us this weekend. We drove up to the cottage on Friday afternoon and met our friends Andy, Jackie and Adaline there. Owen and Adaline played all weekend and really started to get used to each other by the end. Adaline even jumped extra high in her jolly jumper when Owen came close! Here are some photos we're so glad to have. We can show the kids what great times we had when they were just little!
