Growth spurt

On Sunday i noticed a big difference in Owen's waist size and sure enough, one of his 18 month shirts was snug around his cute little mid-section. Look at this picture - to me he looks like a two year old at least! His little face is turning into a toddler already!
On Saturday Owen's Grandma and Grandpa came for a visit and while they were here they took him for a sleigh ride in the woods behind our house. Owen's snowpants are a bit snug so that should explain why he's stiff as a board in this picture:
And here's Owen yesterday as i caught up on some emailing. The room was a complete disaster when i turned around after typing for a bit. 300 cards from a board game were thrown to every corner of our office. After he went to bed last night i started to put the cards neatly back in their boxes but quit after i realized i was being stupid because Owen was just going to do it again the next day.

Reminiscing

One of my favourite things to do is to go through old pictures of Owen. I know, i really have to start trying to get a life outside of Owen and this house! Here are some of my absolute favourite photos of him - enjoy!

The count is at five

Owen now has five teeth that have poked through and the sixth is about to arrive anyday. They haven't seemed to bother him at all, which is great! He's enjoying biting his crackers and other food these days.

A cute, but smelly bum

Here are some pictures from last night's bath time. Bailey thought the smell coming from Owen's bum was interesting, apparently:
Notice his knees in this picture. They're bruised and raw because of crawling so much. Poor guy!

When Owen grows up....

When Owen grows up he is bound to be one (or all) of the following:

  • a musician of some kind. I swear, he can bop his head to the beat of any song. I doubt he'll be the lead singer in a band since we haven't heard him sing along yet. Also, instead of banging the keys on the piano like what i would think a one year old would do, he gently plays the keys with all of his fingers. It's the most interesting thing to watch!

  • a professional polo player. He loves to use the collapsable pole from his tent to wack at a ball and send it flying across the room or in the direction of Bailey. Unfortunately for Bailey, Owen's accuracy is dead on!

  • a professional baseball pitcher. Owen has the arm of a four year old! He has been able to throw with unbelievable force since he was six or seven months old. The only thing he has to work on is that he doesn't understand that the ball goes the direction he's facing, but there's time to work on that small detail.

  • an engineer. Owen is facinated with objects that have many parts to them. He loves to take objects apart and look at each part separately. Anything that isn't a toy, he loves.

  • a model. I'm taking credit for this one - not because of the looks at all (although i guess i did have a hand in creating him!) but because i have taken, and continue to take pictures of him every day. He is so used to the camera now and i guess it helps that he's adorable. When he sees the camera or hears the sound the power button on the camera makes he immediately breaks into a grin for me.

Happy birthday grandma!

Owen would like to say Happy Birthday to his grandma! Here are some of his favourite pictures with grandma:

Our busy weekend

We had a busy weekend as usual. Here are some highlights:
Here's Owen with his Nan and Grandpa at the men's varsity hockey game on Saturday at UOIT.
Owen now heads straight for these blinds in our kitchen and throws them around so they make lots of noise. He doesn't seem to be afraid of anything right now - noisy blinds, the vacuum, stairs, and more.
We also saw lots of family on Sunday, and after a bit of time, Owen warmed up to everyone and started scooting all around the house on the hardwood floors.

A tornado has hit our house and his name is Owen

Now that Owen is mobile, our house is a mess because he gets into everything. He's constantly opening drawers and closing drawers and opening them again and emptying the contents onto the floor. Before he was crawling i was able to clean up after him easily so the house looked reasonably tidy most of the time. Thank goodness he likes sitting in his highchair still so i can put him there while i need to get something done.
Here he is this morning already emptying the cabinet upstairs...
And here he is coming to look for me as i write this blog entry.

Fun times at Grandpa's

Every Sunday we go to Owen's Grandma and Grandpa's house for a yummy dinner and usually, if he's not fast asleep, he will kick his legs and wave his arms frantically by the time we're pulling into the driveway.
During our weekly visit a few weeks ago someone (probably Grandpa) took him down into the basement to investigate what kind of fun stuff is down there. They found lots of remote controls along with a TV, a real train set, a swiveling chair, pens and pencils in a drawer, and more! Now whenever we visit he immediately starts pointing downstairs and saying 'uh, uh, uh!' And whenever Grandpa and Owen are missing we know they're down in the basement finding more fun stuff.

Here he is playing with his remote control and having a grand old time!

Owen meets Adaline

We recently went for a drive to visit our friends Andy and Jackie and their new daughter Adaline. Owen slept the entire way there and the entire way home again, so we enjoyed a quiet time while we drove.
Adaline was such a sweetheart and slept most of the time we were there. She even let us all hold her to all of our delight! Owen poked at Adaline a bit but was very gentle, so we were proud of him!
